History Of ECRC

Eye care and Research centre started in 1982 as a small entity. This centre has gradually emerged as one of the best Eye care centres in India with the latest state of art technology required for the diagnosis and treatment of eye disease. With passage of time the centre has been equipped with the latest sophisticated equipment so as to enable the patients to avail the facilities within the state and spare them the ordeal to go outside the state for treatment.

Cataract surgery with intraocular lens implantation was started in year 1984.  Vitreo-retinal services were started in 1996.  Subsequently Phaco emulsification for cataract removal was started in 1999 using protege Phaco Emulsification machine. In 2000 the latest Zeiss Operating Microscope was added to the surgical section. Topcon Non Contact Tonometer was installed in 2002.

In April 2003 Humphrey Visual field analyser was added to the glaucoma clinic. This was first time in J&K that such facility was provided for patients, same year laser services were started. In April 2005 first ever corneal transplantation was done in Kashmir. Two patients received eye donation by volunteers from outside state. Surgery was done free of cost at ECRC in association with Laser Tech New Delhi. Full visual restoration was achieved. Visu 2010 operating microscope from Zeiss was commissioned in 2007. Laureate Phaco Emulsification Machine was added to the surgical section in 2010.  Same year IOL master from Zeiss was added to the cataract clinic.

In the year 2013 corneal topography and Rechiert Non Contact Tonometer was installed. The centre was shifted to the new building in the year 2012.

In January 2014 corneal cross linkage  C3R procedure as a treatment for patients with keratoconus was started.. This was the first time that such facility was initiated in J&K state.
